1881 – This is the year that football in Newcastle began.  The origins of Newcastle United go back to Victorian Tyneside and the two local teams.  Newcastle East End and Newcastle West End.

These two team were situated on opposite side of the city and a great rivalry took place between these two teams and by 1892 it was the East End than was the dominant force while the West End ran into financial difficulties.

Newcastle East End incorporated what was left of the Newcastle West End and moved into the West End’s stadium, St.James Park, which has been the home of Newcastle United ever since.

On December 9th 1892 the club was renamed Newcastle United and it is here where the clubs history begins.
